Andrée baigne dans la musique depuis son tout jeune âge; c’est sa mère qui lui enseigne le piano jusqu’à l’âge de 15 ans. Formée ensuite au Conservatoire de musique de Rimouski et de Québec, elle découvre le jazz par le stage band de l’école et se perfectionne par la suite auprès de Lorraine Desmarais. Depuis 1992, elle enregistre à plusieurs reprises pour la radio de Radio-Canada :Jazz sur le vif, Le Club de minuit, Cree et chuchotements, Silence on Jazz et Quand le jazz est là. Boursière à plusieurs reprises du Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, elle enregistre en 2002 son premier album, Pourquoi (étiquette Effendi), qui reçoit un accueil très chaleureux sur la scène montréalaise. Finaliste en 2004 au Concours GM du Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, elle performe également au Festi Jazz international de Rimouski, aux Nuits internationales de jazz et de blues de Québec et au festival Jazz à Vienne (Isère, France). Elle s’est produite avec divers artistes en France, en Suisse, à New York ainsi que sur des bateaux de croisières. Andrée enseigne au Collège Lionel-Groulx à Ste-Thérèse, dans le programme « Technique professionnelle de musique et chanson ». |
As long as she can remember, Andrée played the piano. Since early childhood, her mother taught her the instrument, until age 15, whenWAYNE SMITH she entered the Rimouski Conservatory of Music (Qc). After transferring to the Quebec Conservatory of Music (where she graduated ), she discovered jazz with the school’s stage band and later attended private studies with internationally renown pianist Lorraine Desmarais. Since 1992 she has regularly been featured on several of the French CBC’s radio shows ( Jazz sur le vif, Cree et chuchotements, Silence on jazz and Quand le jazz est là ). Having obtained grants from the Quebec Arts and Letters Council, Andrée recorded in 2002 her first CD as a leader, Pourquoi, on the Effendi label. (The album was well acclaimed by the public and the jazz community! ) In 2004 she also performed in the finals of the GM contest at the Montreal International Jazz Festival as well as in other festivals such as the Festi Jazz international de Rimouski (Rimouski, Qc), Nuits internationales de jazz et de blues (Quebec city), Jazz à Vienne (Isère, France). As an accompanist , she often works in France, Belgium , New York, and around the world on cruise ships! Andrée is now teaching at the Lionel-Groulx College in Ste-Thérèse (Qc) in the Music and Song Professional Technique program. |

Diplômé de l’université Concordia, il est l’un des batteurs de Montréal les plus en demande, constamment à la recherche de nouvelles idées, de nouveaux sons. Ayant acquis son expérience auprès des figures de proue du jazz montréalais telles que Dave Turner, Nelson Symonds, Normand Guilbeault, Jean Beaudet, Charles Ellison, Yannick Rieu, et plusieurs autres, Claude se considère maintenant comme un musicien autodidacte. En 2000 il prenait part à la session de jazz intensive au « Banff International Center for the Arts » en Alberta, afin d’explorer de nouvelles avenues en compagnie des Joey Baron, Joe Lovano, Mark Feldman, Tony Malaby, Ben Monder et Hugh Fraser. On a pu l’entendre à Montréal avec Archie Shepp, Bob Mover, Dave Young et il fait présentement partie du quatuor de Michael Gauthier et de l’ensemble Normand Guilbeault (Riel, Plaidoyer musical et Mingus Erectus - en hommage à Charles Mingus – tout deux sur l’étiquette Ambiances Magnétiques). Avec ses comparses Aron Doyle à la trompette, Frank Lozano au saxophone et Tommy Babin à la contrebasse, Claude est également membre du collectif FACT, qui a enregistré un album du même nom sur l’étiquette Effendi. |
Claude Lavergne, a graduate of Concordia University, is a much in-demand session player constantly searching for new sounds and ideas. Claude considers himself a self- taught musician under the work and guidance of the many great Montreal jazz musicians: Dave Turner, Nelson Symonds, Normand Guilbeault, Jean Beaudet, Charles Ellison, Yannick Rieu and many others. With Kenny Werner as artist-in-residence, Claude attended the 2000 Banff International Jazz Workshop. There, he had the opportunity to discover new ideas with the influence of such great visiting artists such as Joey Baron, Joe Lovano, Mark Feldman, Tony Pièces perdues (2004) Malaby, Ben Monder and Hugh Fraser. Claude has also played with artists such as Archie Shepp, Bob Mover and Dave Young. In Montreal he currently works with legendary Montreal guitarist Nelson Symonds in the Dave Turner Quartet, the Michael Gauthier Quartet and the Normand Guilbeault Ensemble (Riel, Musical Plea and a tribute to Charles Mingus, Mingus Erectus , both on the Ambiances Magnétiques label ) . He is a member of the collective group FACT along with Frank Lozano on saxophone, Aron Doyle on trumpet and Tommy Babin on contrabass. They recorded their first CD also called FACT, on the Effendi label. |

Bassiste, contrebassiste, arrangeur, auteur compositeur interprète, je dirais de Wayne Smith qu’il est d’une grande polyvalence. Son parcours est des plus étonnant et original; reculons dans le temps pour voir… Fin des années ‘70, Wayne fait un bref passage au Berklee College of Music à Boston ainsi qu’à l’université Concordia à Montréal. De là, ses études en autodidacte le mènent en 1983 à une première tournée européenne avec l’Orchestre sympathique, défunt quatuor de jazz fusion composé du vibraphoniste Jean Vanasse, du flûtiste François Richard et de Eduardo Pipman à la batterie. Durant les années ‘80, il enregistre les albums Différente et Tout passe de Jano Bergeron, “Gare à vous” de Robert Paquette, Face à la musique de Claude Dubois. Sans toutefois délaisser le jazz, il gravait Existango du St-Jak Vendette quartet formé de Pierre St-Jak au piano, Claude Vendette au saxophone ténor et de Raffaele Artiglieri à la batterie et aux percussions. Depuis les années ‘80 il travaille comme pigiste. (On ne compte plus ses participations au FIJM! ) Que l’on pense à ses collaborations avec Michel Pagliaro, Marjo, Véronique Béliveau, Marie Denise Pelletier ou encore avec Ranee Lee, Aldo Nova, Philippe Catherine, Pat LaBarbera, Kevin Turcotte, le Denny Christianson Big Band, Jerry de Villiers, Magella Cormier et Michael Bublé, il s’agit là d’une très large palette musicale! Depuis 1996 Wayne fait partie du groupe 1945, de Paul Chacra. On le retrouve également sur les tout récents albums des auteurs compositeurs interprètes Willow Quig (You Still Do) et Vincent Potel (Le grand Zazou). Polyvalent, je disais… |
Bassist: electric and acoustic, composer, arranger and singer. With his very peculiar road map, I would say that Wayne Smith is one of the most versatile musicians I know. Let’s go back in time… Late 70’s, after a brief stay at Berklee College of Music in Boston and at Concordia University in Montreal, Wayne is invited in 1983 to join “ L’ Orchestre sympathique” (a defunct fusion group lead by vibraphonist Jean Vanasse and flutist François Richard with Eduardo Pipman on drums) for their European tour. During the 80’s he works with French-speaking singer/songwriters Robert Paquette (his album Gare à vous) and Jano Bergeron (Différente and Tout Passe) . He also worked with Quebec superstar Claude Dubois on his album Face à la musique. Still playing jazz, he recorded Existango with the St-Jak-Vendette Quartet (Pierre St-Jak on piano, Claude Vendette on saxophone and Raffaele Artiglieri on drums and percussions). From the 80’s on, Wayne has made countless appearances at the Montreal International Jazz Festival and still works as a freelance musician. Considering his associations with Québec pop stars Marjo, Véronique Béliveau, Marie Denise Pelletier, Michel Pagliaro or with jazz greats Ranee Lee, Aldo Nova, Philippe Catherine, Pat LaBarbera, Kevin Turcotte, The Denny Christianson Big Band, Jerry de Villiers, Magella Cormier and Michael Bublé, one can’t deny the fact that he has a very, very large spectrum… In 1996 Wayne joined Paul Chacra’s band, 1945 , which he currently plays with, and recently recorded albums with singer/songwriters Willow Quig (You still do ) and Vincent Potel (Le grand Zazou ).
